Open Your Eyes and Find Art

I am not working on anything at the moment.  I am planning on going to Beadfest next Saturday.

I thought you might like to see what I have discovered.  I walk down this block in Newark NJ every morning from my bus stop.
The walk to work, Newark NJ
It looks intimidating, what with the razor wire and the metal doors pulled over windows.  I never really thought twice about it.  This is a block from the Newark Museum and a block or two from parts of Rutgers.

However, when I looked at the trees as I was passing by I discovered some hidden art.

Mask II
I love these masks, made of metal, and appreciate them every day when I pass by.

I bet, seeing the street, you were expecting graffiti- which I also love when done well.

Finding art is always a joyful surprise.

What will you find this week?

  1. Wonderful! I used to make little ceramic figures and leave them in odd places in public for people to find. Maybe I need to do that again. Your post reminded me of how fun that was to do.

    1. That would surly make two people happy, at least, you and the person who finds your art. Go for it.

  3. Those are beautiful masks! I find something to photograph on every walk I take through my neighborhood. You'd think, same old places, same paths, but how you look really determines what you see. Thank you for sharing these little tree treasures!

    1. The masks were a joyful find. One of the best things about riding mass transit is that you have to walk something more than a parking lot. I love watching the change of seasons. Even better, when a fellow bus rider mentioned her "morning glories" I knew exactly where her garden was- it was a great way to make a new friend.

  4. What wonderful surprises! I always love coming across public art installations in surprising areas. Those masks are really fun.

We have blue trees at a plaza downtown - literally. As part of a public art installation all of the trees trunks and major branches were painted blue (with a non-toxic pigment) from ground level up to about two stories. It looked striking in winter, and ethereal with the fine green leaves this summer.

(And I agree entirely about your comment regarding mass transit, too).

    1. Now the blue trees sound wonderful, especially in winter.

And, mass transit makes it possible for me to use the transit time to catch up on reading I would be doing anyway. I love mass transit. Of course, I don't like the 40 minute commute- but that is the nature of living in the NYC metro area.

  5. Beadfest..... Sigh..... I wish I were going, too. I expect to see some good photos of your loot!

    1. I hope I do not end up with a lot of loot. Honestly, I DO NOT need any more beads. Although one of my favorite delica vendors will be there- The Queens Beads, her prices are fabulous. And I really do want to keep my eyes open for 2mm and 3mm bicones and interesting rounds. Then there is lamp work and pretty focal stones. Oh, and maybe some twin beads (no spikes!) LOL see, I DO NOT need any more beads. It will be fun and my feet will hurt.
