Philadelphia Bead Fest Loot

I swear I said I did not need any more beads and it was true.  Except, I really did need some tiny crystals, some bead caps, and more seed beads are almost always in order.  I had a good time.  What surprised me the most were all the tutorials and kits for sale.  All lovely.  I am just going to post pictures of the loot below, appropriately captioned.  If you want to know the name of a source let me know.

before I get to the rest, let me tell you my splurge were beads by Harold Williams Cooney.  I have had my eye on his American Trade Beads for years.  I found some for sale and they were all that I expected.
American Trade Beads by Harold Williams Cooney

Metal beads which are great for filler
Daggers - something good will come from these

Piggy Beads - will be featured soon in an upcoming major magazine and now found mostly in Europe

Super Duos - I really needed to try these

Delicas - these are almost all 10's and 15's and you can never have enough Delica beads

Sea Glass - these were inexpensive, and the colors were not quite captured by the camera.  These are hardworking beads.

Caps, Spacers, and Charms - When you need them you cannot find them, so I stocked up.

Bead Caps for Kumihimo
Kumihimo cords - A trend for my future?
Fish Charms - these are for another fish necklace in toned down colors

Pressed Glass Strands - what most people envision when they are given the word "bead"
Tiny Charlottes - These are tiny even by seed bead standards and irresistible.

  1. Hello:
All I can see here is 'irresistible'.Looks exactly, like me making the order in my favorite 'Firemountain&Gems'-I always 'swear'-do not need much, but occurs afterwards-the heavy box comes to my place, full of colors, shapes and textures.I love those pics of Yours and become 'greedy' at once:-))Lovely tiny Charlottes-I'd buy the tone at once!
Best Greets :I've started beading, blogging and commenting again-it's high time,I woke up:-))

    1. I have been seeing the piggy beads in the European blogs I follow and was on the look out for them at the show. Only two sellers had them. Aria Design Studio, which can be found on Etsy, is who I bought from.

I am itching to make something new and not even thinking about the 4 unmade tutorials I want to start.

  3. I've never seen piggy beads before - interesting hole placement. I will be watching to see what you do with these...and I REALLY want to see the necklace you make with those fabulous fish charms! Gotta go check out Harold Williams Cooney!

    1. When I bought the piggy beads the woman who sold them to me said they would be featured in one of the two major bead weaving magazines this autumn- I am prepared.

The fish charms will be used in a necklace like my last project- only this time I will use very neutral shades. I have some bone pieces as well.

Finally, I love Harold Williams Cooney's beads. They are gorgeous in person, light as can be because they are hollow, and feel absolutely fabulous because of his finishing process. They are also not that expensive! That is not to say they are cheap, just not that expensive.

And by the way, because of your last post I had my eyes open for The Missing Link book, but did not see it at Bead Fest.

    1. There was a lot to see at Bead Fest. I have always loved my local bead shops and will always support them. I really do, however, love going to the shows. They are exciting and so much to see and there are bargains to be had.

    1. I am really happy I bought the art beads. The bead caps seem to be hard to find and they were on my shopping list.

It would be lovely to meet you Marsha. I hope I am local when the Philly Bead Fest rolls around next year.

  6. Oh my what beautiful treasures. Bead Fests are truly dangerous places - I always spend far (far, far, far) more than I intend to and always leave thinking, "Oh I wish I had bought those beads and those findings and..." :D

    1. I had a really great time. So much to see! And I swore before I went that I did not need anything, or at least not much. I really did want some bead caps. I knew one of my favorite sellers of Delica beads would be there, and you can never have too many seed beads. I am really glad I found some super duo beads and the piggy beads- not sure yet what I am going to make but something new will be fun.

  7. Thank you for your nice and friendly words on my block. I see, you have also shopped successfully. Now I'm curious, what you'll create with those. - In any case beading is a wonderful activity and I wish you a lot of time and many ideas... :-)

    1. I bought Sabine's last book and have only made one project. I have 4 tutorials that I have not started. I was inspired at the show! And I am clueless as to how I am going to use the American Trade Beads- the big art beads I bought. Oh, and I still haven't quite finished my last project. There is plenty to do.

    1. It does not matter how many times I say "I don't need any more beads" I always find something that 1) will be really useful or 2) I just have to have. Those American Trade Beads I had to have. Now I have to figure out what to do with them. Inspiration will come. Enjoy your loot.
