MIscalculation

Yes, miscalculation.  20 grams of size 10 galvanized silver beads was not quite enough to complete the neckstrap for the turquoise slab necklace.
Herringbone Strap In Progress

Here is a useful hint for those of you who move from place to place with unfinished beadwoven projects: use those empty tubes to store your threaded needle to avoid finger pricks and tangles.  Just wrap the thread around your fingers, just like you would an electrical cord, pinch it next to the needle and slide it into the tube and cap.

I did make some progress:
Measured progress
I have two buying addictions: books and beads.  I will never ever have enough books.  I might just have enough beads.  I have been getting much better at resisting temptation.  Yesterday, however, I purchased many many tubes of Delica beads at the Intergalactic Bead Show. Should you find yourself at this show I highly recommend The Queen's Beads- her selection is fine and the prices cannot be beat.  Here is what I picked up:
Delica haul: top size 15, middle size 11, bottom size 10
The beads were laid out on my favorite dull reflective backdrop- a pizza pan.  I almost cropped the picture so it would not be quite so obvious.  I really like to use the pizza pan for my backdrop.  It is slightly reflective so I get a bit of extra light; it has a pebbled finish so you do not get a reflection of the camera.

Despite my haul, the vendor did not have the beads I needed, so I still need to place a mail order from my favorite Delica vendor: Painters Beads.

  1. Hi:-)
I smiled ,when I read about YOur 'addictions':-)
I am the same-all the books about the beadweaving,You can see on the right side scroll bar of my blog it's not all I want to have:-)Never enough of them, never enough of beads.I've never showed my beads'collection, but maybe someday I will do it:-)And I've been buying them all the time, new shapes, qualities, textures, tastes and colors:-)
As for the miscalculation: I think, that this kind of the tubular herringbone demands lots of beads.Important, whether YOu were able to get more of the same kind,if not-which I do not even want to take into account-You'd have had to change the ropes into the other ones, but those ones are so beautiful.I do hope-everything will be all right-You'll find the way-I wish You that with all my heart,as I am very much interested in the final effect of that pretty necklace.
    Warm Greetings-Halinka-

    1. I found the same color at the bead show but it is a different finish: galvanized v. duracoat galvanized. I want this necklace to age the same so I will order more of the galvanized and finish when the new beads arrive.

  2. Thanks for the tip about storing the needle in a bead tube case. Sounds like a good way to "cat-proof" it, too--a concern in my household.

    1. You are welcome. Not sure it will work to cat-proof your work as it might make it easier for them to pat it around. However, when they do so it will not end up a tangled mess.

  3. Two great ideas - the thread-in-a-tube tip and the pizza tray as a photo background tip. Not only are you working on one slamming fabulous necklace, you sneaked (I know that's grammatically correct, but I swear "snuck" sounds more right to me!) a couple of winner hints into the post!

    1. I have been using the thread-in-the-tube trick for some time and one of my friends saw and said it was a great idea- up until that point I hadn't thought twice about it. Thus, I decided to pass it along.

The pizza pan I posted about previously. But it is my favorite, non-white, light boosting background.

  4. I love the pizza pan idea, although mine doesn't look as nice as yours! Love the threaded needle idea, great for traveling!

    1. It is gratifying to know that people read instead of just look at the pictures (something I am sometimes guilty of.) As for the way my pizza pan looks; I bought it at WalMart just for this purpose and have not used it for anything else.

      Glad the hints were helpful.
